Chauncy Young has dedicated over 20 years to community organizing, focusing on the intersection of education justice and environmental equity in the Bronx. Since 2016, he has served as the director of the New Settlement Parent Action Committee, where he leads the Healing-Centered Schools Working Group in partnership with Legal Services NYC. Chauncy began his career in the Bronx with the Community Collaborative to Improve District 9 Schools, based out of Highbridge Community Life Center, and is a founding member of the New York City Coalition for Educational Justice. He currently serves on the steering committees for Dignity in Schools New York and New Yorkers for Racially Just Public Schools. 

Parallel to his work in education, Chauncy is an advocate for public spaces. He is the coordinator of the Harlem River Coalition (formerly the Harlem River Working Group), an initiative he has served as coordinator since its inception in 2009. He has also served on the board of the Bronx Council of Environmental Quality.  Prior to this, he was a leader in the campaign to reopen the High Bridge, New York City’s oldest standing bridge, where he served as chairperson. Today he focuses on developing an interconnected greenway system along the Harlem River. He represents these interests as co-chair of the NYC Greenway Coalition and serves on advisory committees for the NYC Department of Transportation and the Economic Development Corporation.   

A longtime resident of the Highbridge neighborhood in the Bronx, Chauncy is first and foremost a devoted husband and father. He and his family can often be found exploring the very parks and greenways he works to protect and expand.
