Kayak Staten Island is an all-volunteer-run urban kayaking program which provides free and low-cost public paddling to the Staten Island and larger NYC community. We believe strongly in environmental stewardship, waterfront advocacy, equity and providing access to a water sport that is too often cost-prohibitive for many of our neighbors.
Directors Annette Pierce and James Limperopulos lead Kayak Staten Island with an unswerving commitment to safety, a love of nature, and dedication to community. Annette, with KSI since 2008, brings over a decade of non-profit and social justice experience and considers community her medium. When she’s not practicing welding, out for a run, growing things on her tiny balcony or making waves in the radio studio, she can be found happily wearing a few different hats for KSI. James, a professional tradesperson by day, history buff, dog lover, and avid kayaker, has paddled NYC’s waterways for years, including circumnavigating Manhattan multiple times. For years, he balanced his full-time job with a passion for working with adults with special needs. With his trademark humor and impressive kayak collection, James ensures KSI public events are safe and fun for everyone.
