Furhana Husani is Vice President of Programs and Strategy at Waterfront Alliance, where she leads strategic programming and partnerships that advance climate resilience, equitable waterfronts, and thriving communities across the New York and New Jersey harbor region.

She oversees the programming for Waterfront Alliance’s flagship initiatives, including the Waterfront Conference, City of Water Day, and Climate Week programming, while guiding a broad portfolio spanning climate resilience, waterfront access, environmental education, workforce development, marine transportation, water safety, and community engagement. Passionate about bringing people together, Furhana works across sectors to connect communities, government, philanthropy, academia, and industry to develop practical, community-driven solutions to climate challenges.

Prior to joining Waterfront Alliance, Furhana spent more than a decade designing and leading programs that expanded opportunities for youth and underserved communities. She also brings more than ten years of experience as an engineer and consultant specializing in electricity generation, renewable energy policy, energy markets, and climate change.

Beyond her work at Waterfront Alliance, Furhana has contributed to national and international conversations on climate resilience and security through the chairing the Climate Change Working Group at Women of Color Advancing Peace, Security & Conflict Transformation (WCAPS) and currently serves as an advisor to Street Works Earth. She is a member of the Green Marine North Atlantic Advisory Committee and Climigration’s Policy and Law and Learning, Programming, and Events workgroups.

Furhana earned a Master of Public Administration from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, completed the Graduate Program in Islamic Studies and the Humanities at The Institute of Ismaili Studies, and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Drexel University.

Furhana has two beautiful children and would like to see them grow up in a more just and equitable world.
