Margaret FlanaganDirector of Education and Outreach
Captain Maggie Flanagan is responsible for the Waterfront Alliance’s education, outreach, and on-water programs. In this role she helps communities and groups gain access to, learn about, and enjoy the many recreational opportunities our harbor has to offer. A classroom teacher for many years, she specializes in marine education, and most recently served as the South Street Seaport Museum’s director of marine education. A licensed captain, Maggie earned some of her sea time on local vessels like the schooner Pioneer and yacht Manhattan. In deeper waters, she has sailed transatlantic, performed fisheries research in the Hawaiian Islands, and sailed across the Equator in the Pacific. Maggie was a fall 2018 fellow of The New York Community Trust Leadership Fellows program.
